Learning the Streets of Naples and Bonita Springs

LOVE the Garmin Russ got for Christmas! Today I went shopping at various locations while Russ stayed back at the condo. Three highlights:

1. Visited Hobby Lobby home decor and craft store for the first time. Loved this store! The closest one to me back in Massachusetts is in southern Rhode Island.

2.  Discovered how to somewhat easily get to a Dunkin' Donuts (meaning avoiding 10-lane Tamiami Trail!) and had a Coolata and chocolate-frosted donut!

3.  Went to Bealls Outlet store and got kitchen tongs for Russ, the chef in our family. (He missed ours from back home.) He was THRILLED when I gave them to him.

The most chilling and thrilling moment today was something I saw while waiting at one of the interminable traffic lights down here - close to house where my in-laws lived in the 1970s and 1980s: Diagonally in front of me was a Volkswagon bug. This kind of car was my mother-in-law's pride and joy when she and Dad Whittaker lived here in Naples. Slightly above the car was a sign near the intersection that said something ending with "Call Ray." Ray is my father-in-law's name. They both passed on in recent years. Seeing the car and the sign made me smile...Mom and Dad Whittaker's presence is keenly felt by Russ and myself here in Naples!

Today's photo: Russ relaxing - playing on the iPad!

The rest of the day we spent researching more 55+ communities to visit in Southwest Florida.  Tomorrow we head to two more - one in Port Charlotte and another in North Port.
