What a day.
We started out meeting a realtor at the only 55+ community (non-manufactured home) in Port Charlotte. It was awful...houses right on top of one another...absolutely no privacy. No wonder the resale homes were much lower in cost than almost everything else online.
The realtor then took us to the next town north of Port Charlotte - North Port. There was a community there I wanted to check out...especially since the builder is the same as the builder who made the style house Russ and I loved at Del Webb in Ave Maria, the town east of Naples. The club house and swimming area were amazing!!! The people we met there (who live in the community) gushed about how wonderful it was to live there. Here's a link to the place: http://www.delwebb.com/communities/FL/north-port/CypressFallsatTheWoodlands/209208/index1.aspx#.UtCqynlRHwJ
We checked out a house advertised online that was the exact style we want. It was built a year and a half ago. It was amazing with two major problems: the neighbors built a pool about 6 feet from "our" lanai...NO privacy whatsoever....and the other problem being the neighbors across the street....real pains in the butt according to another neighbor who sold his house to escape them. Well, we still love the community......we just would not buy a house on that street!!!
Back to the people we met at the club house....two of the women were so fun and excited to meet me. One had been a teacher for the same number of years as was I! Her husband is a retired school administrator. She said there are a lot of retired teachers in the community. Her husband said living at this place is like living in a resort full time. They bought two houses...one they rent out.
We plan on returning here to talk to the sales office people; the office was closed today due to a meeting. That was a good thing since it gave time for Russ and I to compare the exact same homes in two different developments. Get this: The Naples-area house was $50,000 more for the exact same house! BOTH communities are 40-45 minutes from the ocean (bummer); however, the North Port one is closer to stores and is one mile east of Rte. 75.
